Flat
A “flat canvas form” is a term used to describe the physical surface on which an artist creates their artwork. It is one of the most widely used surfaces for paintings. Additionally, it serves as a versatile foundation for various artistic techniques and mediums.
A flat canvas typically consists of a slab of canvas that is designed for artistic use. It is often sealed with a sealant such as gesso or primer.
Unlike a stretched canvas, a flat canvas has not been stretched over a wooden frame. It has its advantages, such as being easier to store and taking up less space. The one downside, however, is it requires additional framing if you intend on hanging it.
